The fb pages I just made for my Church-Service Mission are from the neighborhoods where I grew up. Inglewood 1st Ward was where I was a Sunbeam and my mother taught the Trail Blazer boys on Saturdays. We went to Jr. Sunday School in the basement. Margaret was baptized in the font which was a swimming pool just to the left in the picture.
Mother was new at driving. There was a steep hill as we left the church for home. At the top of the hill was a railroad track and a traffic light. Mother would start up the hill and we would all hope the light would be green when we got to the top. If it wasn't it was almost a guarantee the engine would die when she started to shift into first and move forward. When the engine died she'd have would have to roll back down to the bottom of the hill and get the engine started again and hope to get up and through the light. More than once it took her several tries.
Mother taught Jr. Sunday School. I remember her preparing for her lessons. She liked to make activity sheets for the children. She would trace a design with a special purple large-lead pencil for the original. In a cookie sheet she had melted many packets of Knox gelatin to cover the tray. When the gelatin was set she laid the out-lined image on the gelatin to imprint the purple image. One by one she laid an 8 x 10 sheet of paper on the purple image and rub it good then peel it off. She probably was able to make about 20 copies. Then she'd melt the gelatin in the tray and the image would disappear and let it set for the next printing. In due time the gelatin had to be discarded and a fresh batch made.
We didn't go to church for a few years until we were in the Lennox Ward which I think I also just made fb page for. The neighborhood has changed so much its difficult to tell and I don't remember the address.
Its really quite startling to visualize me sitting on these steps of the Inglewood Ward building for a Primary photo as a 3-year old, 71 years ago!

Margaret said about her baptism:
"In the outdoor pool, in my white flannel pj's that Mother had sewn for me . . . when I was immerged they became so heavy I thought I was going to drown!!"
