This morning as I was finding missing data for googleplaces LDS listings, I couldn't resist making a fb page for Hollywood Ward, their website text was so interesting and inviting. Besides that was the ward where I was blessed as an infant. Who can resist that! David loved that I was from “Hollywood.” Note that I’m not noted among the notable:
Welcome to the Hollywood Ward
The Hollywood Ward has a history which dates back to the roaring twenties and Hollywood, California’s beginnings as the ‘entertainment and movie making capital of the world’. Originally organized in March 1923 the Hollywood Ward was part of what was then called the Hollywood Stake. The stake later became the Los Angeles Stake and in 2012 the Hollywood ward will celebrate its 89th birthday.
The Hollywood Ward boundaries include the communities of Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake, much of West Hollywood and famous landmarks like the Hollywood sign, movie studios, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, the Walk of Fame, the intersection of Sunset and Vine, the Capitol Records building, Sunset Strip and the list goes on. Most importantly the Hollywood Ward serves as a beacon for many in a world that offers spotlights, stars and red carpets but too often not enough of the light that is found only in the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
The members of the Hollywood Ward hail from many corners of the world and are as diverse as you
might expect in a city like Los Angeles. You will find members who speak English, Spanish, Russian,
Armenian, Chinese, Tongan, Korean, French, Japanese, Italian, Tagalog and dialects of English from
Britain, Australia, Mississippi, and Spanish Fork. Many of us work in ‘the industry’ as actors, writers and musicians but we’re also teachers, attorneys, accountants, electricians, plumbers, and waiters.
The Hollywood Ward once met in a rented Masonic lodge, later in a rented music conservatory, then for many years in a building purchased from the Methodist church and finally today in a Spanish stylebuilding on Normandie Avenue between Sunset and Hollywood Boulevards.
Whether you have lived in Hollywood forever, are new to the area or are just in town to see the sights,
we invite you to join us on Sunday mornings at 9 am as we worship together and remember our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Didn't I have stunning beginnings!
